Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to announce that the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the County of Summit by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Akron, Ohio, - Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds property owners that the Board of Revision will accept complaints against the valuation of real estate beginning Saturday, January 1, 2022. The deadline to file a complaint form (Form DTE 1) is Thursday, March 31, 2022.

Property owners who do not agree with the county valuation of their real estate have the opportunity to file a complaint with the Board of Revision. When a complaint is filed, the Board of Revision will hold a hearing, consider testimony or evidence provided, and issue a decision on whether an adjustment should be made to the property valuation. (The board does not hear complaints regarding real estate taxes). Until further notice, all hearings shall be held remotely via Zoom.

Akron, Ohio, - Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE would like to remind Summit County residents that dog licenses will be available for purchase beginning December 1, 2021, through January 31, 2022. The cost for a single-year license is $18, a three-year license is $54, and a permanent license is $180. If a lost dog is brought to Summit County Animal Control wearing a license tag, staff can find the owner quickly and reunite the family and pet. If a citizen finds a lost dog and it is wearing a license tag, they can go to “Kristen’s Kanine Search” on the County website at https://fiscaloffice.summitoh.net/index.php/dog-licensing/dog-search and type in the license number and find the dog’s owner information.

Akron, Ohio, September 7, 2021 – Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE would like to announce the passage of Senate Bill 4, which expands the definition of a “designated public service worker” under the Ohio Revised Code to include emergency service telecommunicators, certain Ohio National Guard members, protective service workers, forensic mental health providers, mental health evaluation providers, and regional psychiatric hospital employees. These individuals’ residential and familial information is now exempt from disclosure under the Public Records Law. The new law went into effect on September 7, 2021.

Taxpayers should be advised that the United States Post Office is currently experiencing large volumes of mail and frequent delays, which may impact tax bill and payment deliveries. Property owners are encouraged to take advantage of our online and phone payment system and utilize the e-check payment option, which requires a flat rate service fee of $1.

AKRON, OHIO – Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to reintroduce the Fix-It Funds Home Improvement Loan Program to benefit the homeowners of Summit County. Qualifying homeowners can apply for low interest, fixed rate loans through Westfield Bank to fund large and small home improvement projects. Loan amounts can range from $5,000 to $50,000 and interest rates are up to 2% below the Bank's current rate.

Taxpayers should be advised that the United States Post Office is currently experiencing large volumes of mail and frequent delays, which may impact tax bill and payment deliveries. Due to COVID-19, taxpayers are encouraged to pay by mail or utilize the drop box located at the Summit County Fiscal Office Services Department at 1030 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron, OH 44310.
