Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is proud to offer the veterans of Summit County a wallet-size identification card that will conveniently display their branch of service, address, honorable discharge status, and entry and discharge dates. The veteran identification card serves as an alternative to the Armed Forces Discharge record known as a DD Form 214, or DD214. There are great advantages to carrying a veteran identification card:
- It is similar in shape and appearance to a driver’s license, so it fits comfortably in a wallet
- The card can be used to prove your veteran status and verify your identification
- Retail establishments will accept it to receive veteran discounts and incentives
- The magnetic strip on the back of the card can be read by card readers with just a swipe
Summit County veterans can purchase their identification card in-person during regular business hours at the Summit County Fiscal Office, Recorder Division, 4th floor, 175 S. Main St., Akron 44308. The fee for a card is $1. Veterans must be able to show a valid DD214 containing an honorable discharge status and two of the following forms of identification (one of which must contain a photograph):
- An original or certified birth certificate
- An identification card issued by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs
- A United States military identification card
- A social security card
- A license or permit to carry a concealed weapon issued by this state or any other state
- A motor vehicle operator’s license issued by this state or any other state that bears a photograph of the licensee
- An identification card issued by the state or any other state that bears a photograph of individual identified
- A valid passport that bears a photograph of the individual to whom the passport was issued
- A United States armed forces discharge record
