The National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) announces Weights and Measures Week on March 1-7, 2013. This week acknowledges the public servants who work vigorously to protect us as consumers. In Summit County, the Weights and Measures Division falls under the Summit County Fiscal Office. 1st Half 2012 Real Estate Tax Bills

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds taxpayers that first half 2012 real estate tax bills are due on February 15, 2013, with the exception of military personnel. Property taxes are deferred for military reservists who are on active duty. Applications can be obtained by calling 330-643-2641 or visiting our Military Assistance.

Register dogs at Acme Fresh Markets prior to deadline

Summit County Executive Russ Pry and Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE will be registering dogs at participating Acme Fresh Markets on Saturday, January 26th between the hours of 10am and 2pm. The deadline to purchase or renew your dog’s registration is January 31, 2013.

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is introducing a new payment option for Summit County taxpayers by adding MoneyGram, an in person cash payment method for real estate taxes.

 

Filing a complaint against valuation of real estate

Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds taxpayers that the Board of Revision will be accepting complaints against the valuation of their real estate beginning January 1, 2013. The deadline to file a complaint form (DTE 1) is April 1, 2013.

Top Summit County elected officials will be taking their oath of office on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 4:30pm. The public ceremony will be held in the rotunda of the John S. Knight Center, located at 77 Mill Street in downtown Akron.

 

Successful Negotiated Tax Lien Sale

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that her office conducted a Negotiated Tax Certificate Lien Sale on Friday, November 30, 2012. Woods Cove III, LLC had a successful bid of $5.1 million on 1,196 parcels. And Propel Financial Services had a successful bid of $302,357.12 for 45 parcels.

Parcels that sold consisted of residential, commercial and industrial properties. The Fiscal Office was able to collect $5.4 million in delinquent tax dollars as a result of the sale.

 

2013 Dog & Kennel Licenses now available

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced 2013 dog licenses will be available for purchase as of December 1, 2012. 2013 license renewal forms are being mailed to dog owners the week of December 1, 2012. Dog licenses cost $14. Ohio law requires licenses to be renewed between December 1 and January 31 each year. A late fee equal to the cost of the license will be charged for applications received after January 31, 2013. If your dog has a Dangerous Dog designation, it must be registered per O.R.C. This is in addition to your annual registration.

 

Third billing delinquent real estate tax bills in the mail

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced a third billing for parcels that have delinquent taxes. The tax bills will be mailed beginning Tuesday, October 23, 2012 as a courtesy to our taxpayers.

The closing date for payment will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Failure to pay by the due date may result in publishing the taxpayer’s name in a newspaper publication as required by law.

 

Firewood Regulations

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is reminding consumers as cooler weather approaches, they should be alert when purchasing firewood. Fiscal Officer Scalise’s Weights & Measures inspectors enforce Ohio laws that protect consumers when they buy firewood.

2nd Half 2011 Tax Deadline

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds taxpayers that the second half 2011 Real Estate tax deadline is Friday, July 13, 2012. Residential homeowners who are unable to pay second half taxes can enroll in our Tax Installment Program and make monthly installment payments. July Storm Victims Real Estate Tax Relief

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE announced today that she would offer real estate tax relief to property owners throughout Summit County who sustained storm damage to their property in the wake of the storm that took place on July 1st. Ms. Scalise’s office is taking the necessary steps to provide property owners the ability to file an “Application for Valuation Deduction for Destroyed or Damaged Real Property”, pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 319.38 with her office.

2014 Reappraisal has begun

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE announces the Fiscal Office Appraisal Department’s sexiennial listing phase for the state mandated 2014 reappraisal has begun. Members of Scalise’s appraisal staff will use new Tough-book laptop computers to access data and verify records on-site to update property record cards.
