Owner-Occupancy Tax Reduction and Homestead Exemption deadline approaching, increased exemption for military veterans

These property tax reductions provide a significant savings to property owners in Summit County.
 

$4.64 million dollars to schools, community

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to announce that she will return $4,644,900 in tax dollars to local taxing authorities. School districts are the major benefactor of the refund, receiving a total of $2,986,840.99. The money is a credit of the Real Estate Assessment Fund and will be distributed in early May.

Homestead tax reduction available to qualifying homeowners

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE would like to remind property owners that the homestead exemption is available to provide property tax relief to those who qualify. The homestead exemption is a valuable tax reduction offering Summit County homeowners an average savings of $535 per year. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 1, 2015.
 

First half 2014 real estate tax bills due February 20

Scalise CPA, CFE would like to remind property owners that first half 2014 real estate taxes are due on Friday, February 20, 2015, with the exception of military personnel. Property taxes are deferred for military reservists who are on active duty. Applications can be obtained by calling (330)643-2641 or visiting our Military Assistance tax program.
 

Statutory deadline to purchase 2015 dog license January 31

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds dog owners that the statutory deadline to purchase a 2015 dog license is Saturday, January 31, 2015. Since the deadline falls on a weekend, dog owners may purchase a license without penalty through Monday, February 2, 2015. Citizens who fail to renew their dog license by the deadline will be required to pay an $18 late fee.

The award recognizes County Auditors and Fiscal Officers who, during their term, have completed more than 100 hours of continued education. Fiscal Officer Scalise has completed 131 hours.

$1.3 Million in County Unclaimed Funds could be yours

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is searching for owners of over $1.3 million in county unclaimed funds. The Fiscal Office will host an unclaimed funds information table at participating Acme Fresh Markets during the last two weeks of October. Staff will be on-hand to search for citizens’ names in the unclaimed funds database and assist with filing a claim to recover monies owed to them.

Fiscal Officer Scalise’s office is taking the necessary steps to provide property owners the ability to file an Application for Valuation Deduction for Destroyed or Damaged Property (Form DTE 26), pursuant to Ohio Revised Code §319.38.
 

Property value notices to be mailed

Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to announce that the 2014 sexennial reappraisal has concluded and new property value notices will be mailed to owner-occupied, residential property owners beginning Monday, August 18, 2014. During the sexennial reappraisal, county appraisers physically visited and evaluated every parcel in the county. Summit County has approximately 270,000 parcels.
