Summit County Animal Control to Hold 7th Annual Adopt-A-Thon, $10 per Animal

The 7th Annual Summit County Adopt-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Division of Animal Control, located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in downtown Akron. The event is sponsored by Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise.
 

City of Akron and County of Summit Records Live on Ohio's Online Checkbook

Scalise CPA, CFE announced today that city and county pages are now live on Ohio's Online Checkbook, as part of the Treasurer's Transparency Project.Citizens can follow where and how their tax dollars are being spent by visiting http://www.ohiocheckbook.com. Click on the link titled "Local Government and Schools", then select "Akron" or "Summit" in the search field.

The award was presented on August 8, 2016 during the Institute’s 32nd Annual National Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update Conference in Washington D.C.

Veteran Identification Cards to be issued at participating venues

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that the veteran identification card will be available to military veterans at participating venues throughout Summit County. The card is similar in size and shape to a driver’s license and can conveniently serve in place of the military discharge form DD214. Renewal cards will be available to those who hold a card expiring in 2017.

Homestead Tax Reduction Expands Eligibility Requirement for Vets

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that on March 23, 2016 the homestead exemption will expand its eligibility requirements for military veterans. Amended Senate Bill 10, 131st General Assembly has added a provision that will allow veterans to qualify based on their rating for individual unemployment (also referred to as “IU”). Previously, veterans were qualified based only on a total (100%) disability rating. This will provide the opportunity for hundreds of additional military veterans in Summit County to enroll in the homestead exemption.

Time is Running Out to Purchase 2016 Dog Licenses

Time is running out for Summit County dog owners to purchase 2016 licenses for their pets. Ohio law requires all dog licenses to be renewed by January 31, 2016. The cost for a single year license is $18.00, a three-year license is $54.00 and a permanent license is $180.00. Citizens who fail to meet the January 31, 2016 deadline, will be required to pay the statutory late fee of $18.00.
