Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that the veteran identification card will be available to military veterans at participating venues throughout Summit County. The card is similar in size and shape to a driver’s license and can conveniently serve in place of the military discharge form DD214. Renewal cards will be available to those who hold a card expiring in 2017.

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that on March 23, 2016 the homestead exemption will expand its eligibility requirements for military veterans. Amended Senate Bill 10, 131st General Assembly has added a provision that will allow veterans to qualify based on their rating for individual unemployment (also referred to as “IU”). Previously, veterans were qualified based only on a total (100%) disability rating. This will provide the opportunity for hundreds of additional military veterans in Summit County to enroll in the homestead exemption.

Time is running out for Summit County dog owners to purchase 2016 licenses for their pets. Ohio law requires all dog licenses to be renewed by January 31, 2016. The cost for a single year license is $18.00, a three-year license is $54.00 and a permanent license is $180.00. Citizens who fail to meet the January 31, 2016 deadline, will be required to pay the statutory late fee of $18.00.

Fiscal Officer Scalise’s office is taking the necessary steps to provide property owners the ability to file an Application for Valuation Deduction for Destroyed or Damaged Property (Form DTE 26), pursuant to Ohio Revised Code §319.38.
