Akron, Ohio – Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that second half 2025 real estate tax bills will be mailed beginning Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Bills are being mailed later than in previous years due to recent changes required under Ohio law, however, property taxes will remain due in July.
The delay is a result of recent changes enacted by the Ohio General Assembly under House Bill 186, which creates an Inflation Cap Credit adjustment for taxpayers who reside in certain school districts which are on the 20-mill floor or joint vocational school districts that are on the 2-mill floor. This change required the Ohio Department of Taxation to perform a one-time recalculation of affected tax rates. Additional time was also required to update the county software systems to ensure accurate application of the credit.
“Residents should know that this delay is the result of changes mandated under state law and is not unique to Summit County,” said Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise. “I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of my employees and our software vendor, whose efforts made it possible to complete these updates and maintain a July due date for taxpayers.”
While implementation of the law delayed tax bill production, the Inflation Cap Credit is expected to have a minimal overall impact on property taxes in Summit County. Eligible taxpayers may receive a credit under the new law; however, the adjustment is not expected to result in significant changes to most tax bills.
Based on current information, the school districts impacted include Barberton City School District, Coventry Local School District, Green Local School District, Highland Local School District, Northwest Local School District, Revere Local School District, Springfield Local School District, Stow City School District, and Woodridge Local School District. The joint vocational school districts include Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, Medina County Career Center, Portage Lakes Career Center, and RD Drage Career Technical Center.
Eligible taxpayers will see the Inflation Cap Credit identified on their second half tax bills as well as their online property record card, which is available through the Summit County Fiscal Office website.
The closing date for payment will be Friday, July 31, 2026, with the exception of military personnel. Property taxes are deferred for military reservists who are on active duty. Applications can be obtained by calling (330) 643-2641 or visiting our website at http://fiscaloffice.summitoh.net.
