Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that she will offer federal workers affected by the government shutdown an extension to pay their first half 2018 real estate tax bill. Furloughed federal workers can request deferral of property taxes until they return to work. The request must be made by the closing date of payment for first half tax collection on February 15, 2019.
“Many people in our community have been negatively impacted by the government shutdown, through no fault of their own. They are struggling to pay bills and support their families,” said Fiscal Officer Scalise. “By offering an extension on property tax payments, I hope to provide some relief during this challenging time.”

- Property must be residential and owner-occupied
- Owner must be a federal worker affected by the government shutdown
- Owner must provide documentation showing loss of wages, benefits, or income due to the government shutdown
- Property must be current on property taxes
- Request and documentation must be received by February 15, 2019, closing date for first half 2018 real estate tax collection
The Summit County Fiscal Office also offers deferral of property taxes to military reservists called to active duty or currently on active duty, until they return home.
