Property tax payments may be made early for the 2017 real estate tax bill only. Since tax bills will not be prepared until January 2018 (due in February 2018), we suggest basing the amount of your early payment on past tax bills. Please note that our office cannot provide tax advice. If you have questions about whether the early payment may be used for tax purposes, we advise you to contact a finance professional.

Please refer to the questions and answers below for more information. If you have further questions, please call us at 1-888-388-5613 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Q: Will my payment process before January 1, 2018?
A: To have your early payment processed by January 1, 2018, we advise you to visit our office and pay in person. We are located at 175 S. Main St., 3rd Floor, Akron, OH 44308. We cannot confirm that the payment may be used for tax purposes, even if it processed by January 1, 2018. Please seek the advice of a tax professional.

Q: What if my early payment is more/less than the actual tax bill?
A: If the early payment is less than the actual bill, our office will bill you for the remaining amount. If the early payment is more than the actual bill, the overage will be held in a pretax account and applied to your next tax bill.

Q: Can I pay early for multiple tax years?
A: No. Early payments may only be made for the 2017 real estate tax bill.

Q: Can I make an early payment if I escrow my property taxes with a lender?
A: Yes. Please make your early payment directly to our office, not your lender. Since the escrow arrangement is a private negotiation between you and your lender, we advise you to contact them to find out how the early payment will affect your escrow account.

Q: Can I include the early payment as an itemized deductions?
A: The Fiscal Office cannot provide legal advice. If you have questions about whether the early payment may be used for tax purposes, we advise you to contact a finance professional.

Q: Can you give me an exact amount due for the 2017 real estate tax bill? When will the next real estate tax bill be mailed?
A: First half 2017 real estate tax bills will be prepared and mailed in January 2018, due in February 2018. We cannot provide an exact amount due until that time, as tax bills are calculated using rates from the State of Ohio which are provided closer to billing season.
