Third billing delinquent real estate tax bills in the mail

E-mail Print
Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced a third billing for parcels that have delinquent taxes. The tax bills will be mailed beginning Tuesday, October 20, 2015 as a courtesy to our taxpayers.

The closing date for payment will be Wednesday, November 25, 2015. Failure to pay by the due date may result in publishing the taxpayer’s name in a newspaper publication as required by law.

On December 1, 2015 statutory interest will be charged against any unpaid taxes. If your mortgage lender, or another third party, is responsible for paying your tax bill, please contact them immediately and forward the tax bill to them. Ohio law states it is the taxpayer’s responsibility to obtain and pay their tax bill on time.

There are multiple ways for taxpayers to make payment. Please note that third billing payments cannot be paid at a bank. We offer the following convenient methods for payment:

  1. Taxes can be paid at the Fiscal Office, Treasurer Division, on the 3rd floor of the Ohio Building in downtown Akron at 175 S. Main Street from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  2. Tax payments can be mailed. Those payments must be U.S. postmarked by November 25, 2015.
  3. Taxes can be paid online or by phone with a credit card or e-check by visiting our On-Line Tax Payments. Payments are processed by Official Payments Corp., which charges a nominal service fee. This fee does not come back to the county in any way.
  4. In-person cash payments can be made through MoneyGram, a new payment service offered at 35,000 locations nationwide. MoneyGram payments are processed through Official Payments Corp., which charges a nominal service fee and provides guaranteed same-day transactions. To locate a MoneyGram center, visit or call 1-800-MoneyGram.

If there has been a change to your property record, such as discontinuing escrow or refinancing with a new mortgage company, please contact our office to update your tax bill mailing address. You must submit your request in written form by email or regular mail and include the following information: owner’s name, parcel number or address of the property, and the address where you would like the bill mailed.
