The closing date for payment will be Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Failure to pay by the due date may result in publishing the taxpayer’s name in a newspaper publication as required by law.
On December 1, 2014 statutory interest will be charged against any unpaid taxes. If your mortgage lender or someone else is responsible for your real estate tax payment, you must contact them immediately and forward the tax bill to them. Ohio law states it is the taxpayer’s responsibility to obtain and pay their tax bill on time.
There are multiple ways for taxpayers to make payment:
- Taxes can be paid at the Fiscal Office, Treasurer Division, on the 3rd floor of the Ohio Building in downtown Akron at 175 S. Main Street from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Tax payments can be mailed. Those payments must be U.S. postmarked by November 26, 2014.
- Taxes can be paid online or by phone with a credit card or e-check. Payments are processed by Official Payments Corp., which charges a nominal service fee. This fee does not come back to the county in any way.
- In-person cash payments can be made through MoneyGram, a new payment service offered at 35,000 locations nationwide. MoneyGram payments are processed through Official Payments Corp., which charges a nominal service fee and provides guaranteed same-day transactions. To locate a MoneyGram center, visit moneygram.com or call 1-800-MoneyGram.
