Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to announce that the 2014 sexennial reappraisal has concluded and new property value notices will be mailed to owner-occupied, residential property owners beginning Monday, August 18, 2014. During the sexennial reappraisal, county appraisers physically visited and evaluated every parcel in the county. Summit County has approximately 270,000 parcels.

Fiscal Office staff will be available to address questions and concerns during scheduled community meetings throughout Summit County. Property owners are encouraged to attend the meetings for an opportunity to speak individually with a county appraiser. Meetings will be held in Fairlawn, Green, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls and Kenmore beginning September 2, 2014, and concluding on October 15, 2014.

Ohio law mandates that our office assess all real estate situated in Summit County every six years. By law, each parcel’s value must be set at market value for tax year 2014. Since taxes are one year in arrears, the value changes will be reflected on tax bills mailed in January 2015.

To determine fair and accurate real property values, county appraisers divided residential properties into appraisal "neighborhoods." Parcels within these neighborhoods shared common characteristics and were affected by similar influences. Appraisers then analyzed sales ratio reports to determine how values have changed since the last reappraisal. Once that determination was made, a value adjustment was applied to all homes in the neighborhood.

Fiscal Officer Scalise invites concerned property owners to attend one of the following community meetings. All meetings will take place between 1 to 8 p.m.

  • September 2 and 3: Fairlawn Kiwanis Community Center, 3486 S. Smith Rd., Fairlawn
  • September 9 and 10: Green Central Fire Station #1, 1900 Steese Rd., Uniontown
  • October 1 and 2: Stow City Hall, Council Chambers, 3760 Darrow Rd., Stow
  • October 6 and 7: Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., Cuyahoga Falls
  • October 14 and 15: Kenmore Community Center, 880 Kenmore Blvd., Akron
