The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has announced that the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the County of Summit for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The certificate recognizes Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE with the Award of Financial Reporting (AFR) for responsibly preparing the report and going beyond minimum requirements. The winners were selected by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure.
The CAFR is prepared annually for the purpose of reporting financial information relating to the county, such as financial statements, supporting schedules, statistical tables and narrative explanations. CAFR plays a significant role in government because it maintains transparency and accountability of public funds. The report is accessible to the public and groups with a legitimate interest in the financial affairs of our local government. These groups include governing boards, investors, creditors, grantor resource providers and taxpayers.
Fiscal Officer Scalise cordially invites the public to view the 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report on our website. For those who do not have internet access, the report is available for viewing in the Fiscal Office, which is located in the Ohio Building in downtown Akron at 175 S. Main Street on the 4th floor.
