Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE invites dog owners in Summit County to submit a photograph of their pet to be featured in the “Licensed Dog of the Day” campaign on Facebook. The campaign is intended to bring awareness about dog registration and remind dog owners to purchase their 2014 dog license before January 31, 2014.

The “Licensed Dog of the Day” campaign will feature one dog per day now through January 31, 2014, which is the deadline to renew a dog license. Chosen dogs will have their photograph featured on the Fiscal Office’s Facebook Fan Page at www.facebook.com/SummitCountyFiscal. The status update will also include biographical information about the pup, such as unique traits and personal stories.

Dogs featured as a “Licensed Dog of the Day” must possess a current Summit County dog license. To enter, please send a photograph of your dog to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The County of Summit will be offering a three-year license for $54.00 and a permanent license for $180.00, in addition to the one year license for $18.00.

Kennel owners must also renew their licenses during the same time period; the cost is $80 per license. Licenses for dogs providing assistance to citizens with disabilities are free of charge and valid throughout the duration of the animal's life. Proof of training must be submitted.

The Ohio Revised Code requires citizens who own, keep or harbor a dog more than three months of age to purchase a county dog license.

Dog license renewal applications will be mailed beginning December 1, 2013. Citizens who fail to meet the January 31, 2014 deadline will be required to pay an $18 late fee.
