Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to announce additional locations where veterans can obtain the new veteran identification card.

Fiscal Office staff will be on-hand at the Springfield Community Center, 2491 Canfield Rd. in Akron on Monday, November 4 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Dr. in Hudson on Monday, November 11 at 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Cascade Community Development, 2360 Copley Rd., Suite #6 in Copley on Friday, November 15 at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Stow Munroe Falls Public Library, 3512 Darrow Rd. in Stow on Monday, December 2 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fee for a card is $1. Veterans must present a valid DD214 and two of the following forms of identification (one of which must contain a photograph):

  • An original or certified birth certificate.
  • An identification card issued by the United State department of veterans affairs.
  • A United States military identification card.
  • A social security card.
  • A license or permit to carry a concealed weapon issued by this state or any other state.
  • A motor vehicle operator’s license issued by this state or any other state that bears a photograph of the licensee.
  • An identification card issued by the state or any other state that bears a photograph of individual identified.
  • A valid passport that bears a photograph of the individual to whom the passport was issued.

The new veteran identification card offers many benefits to its holder. It is similar in size and appearance to a driver’s license, so it conveniently fits into a wallet. The card can be used by veterans to identify their status. It can be accepted at some retail establishments to obtain veteran discounts and incentives, and the card has a magnetic strip which can be read by card readers with just a swipe.

Veteran identification cards can also be purchased in-person at the Summit County Fiscal Office, Recorder Division, 4th floor, 175 S. Main St., Akron 44308. For more information, please call the Recorder Division at (330)643-2715.
