Third billing delinquent real estate tax bills in the mail

Monday, 22 October 2012

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced a third billing for parcels that have delinquent taxes. The tax bills will be mailed beginning Tuesday, October 23, 2012 as a courtesy to our taxpayers.

The closing date for payment will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Failure to pay by the due date may result in publishing the taxpayer’s name in a newspaper publication as required by law.

On December 1, 2012 statutory interest will be charged against any unpaid taxes. If your mortgage lender or someone else is responsible for your real estate tax payment, you must contact them immediately and forward the tax bill to them. Ohio law states it is the taxpayer’s responsibility to obtain and pay their tax bill on time.

There are three ways for taxpayers to make payment:

  1. Taxes can be paid at the Fiscal Office, Treasurer Division, on the 3rd floor of the Ohio Building in downtown Akron at 175 S. Main Street from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  2. Tax payments can be mailed. Those payments must be U.S. postmarked by November 21, 2012.
  3. Taxes can be paid online or by phone with a credit card or e-check; payments are processed by Official Payments Corp., which charges a service fee of 3% for credit card payments and $2 for an electronic check payment.

Please send a written notice or e-mail our office at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it where all future tax bills should be mailed.

Third billing payments cannot be paid at a bank.

The Fiscal Office continues to offer various plans to assist in the payment of delinquent taxes. Any taxpayer who is delinquent should call 330-643-2600.
