Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds taxpayers that the first half 2011 Real Estate tax deadline is Friday, February 17, 2012. Residential homeowners who are unable to pay first half taxes can enroll in our Tax Installment Program and make monthly installment payments. Taxes must be current; the deadline to sign up is February 18, 2011. Call our office at 330-643-2678 for more information.
Fiscal Officer Scalise also reminds reservists and their families about our Military Assistance. Military reservists currently on active duty will not have to pay real estate taxes on owner occupied property until they return home from duty. Taxes can be paid at the Summit County Fiscal Office on the third floor of the Ohio Building in downtown Akron at 175 S. Main Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.
Taxes can be paid through our Regional Tax Collection System. A list of participating banks is on the front of the tax bill; make checks payable to the institution.
You do have the option to pay your tax bill with a credit card or e-check online or by phone. Payments are processed by Official Payments Corporation, which charges a service fee. To pay by phone, call 1-800-272-9829. Follow the instructions on the recorded message. You will need to have your tax bill and the jurisdiction code for Summit County, which is 4596.
Tax payments can be mailed. Those payments must be U.S. postmarked by February 17, 2012 to avoid the statutory penalty for late payment. A private meter is not acceptable.
Fiscal Officer Scalise advises all taxpayers it is their responsibility to obtain and pay their tax bill on time. If you have not received a tax bill, call 330-643-2588 before the deadline of February 17 to avoid the 5% and 10% penalty.
