Fiscal Officer Donofrio announces new Abandoned Property Program;

Summit County Fiscal Officer John A. Donofrio has announced his office is introducing an outreach program to help identify and verify abandoned properties throughout Summit County.

The purpose of the program is to help the Fiscal Office track the impact these properties have on the values of neighboring homes.

Donofrio said “These properties foster crime, public nuisances, vandalism and deteriorated property values. They are becoming far too commonplace in our neighborhoods.”

Donofrio further stated his office is looking for abandoned properties, not vacant homes that may be for sale, for rent or the homeowner is out of state during the winter months.

Donofrio’s appraisal staff will visit the properties to conclude if they are actually abandoned. In the event safety or health issues are determined the appropriate agencies will be contacted.

By submitting an address of a possible abandoned property in your neighborhood you can assist the Fiscal Office in compiling a database that will provide valuable information appraisers can utilize to determine the level of impact on property values and stabilization factors of a neighborhood. Submissions are anonymous.

Please visit our Abandoned Property Field Check to submit an E-Form field check request. If you do not have Internet access, call our office at 330-643-8654.
