E-mail Print

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that her office conducted a Negotiated Tax Certificate Lien Sale on Friday, November 30, 2012. Woods Cove III, LLC had a successful bid of $5.1 million on 1,196 parcels. And Propel Financial Services had a successful bid of $302,357.12 for 45 parcels.

Parcels that sold consisted of residential, commercial and industrial properties. The Fiscal Office was able to collect $5.4 million in delinquent tax dollars as a result of the sale.

The Fiscal Office previously collected $1.9 million in October 2012 from a subsequent tax lien sale. Fiscal Officer Scalise will now distribute more than $7.3 million in certified delinquent tax dollars currently owed to the taxing districts.

Tax Certificate Sales insure that taxing districts entitled to revenues from property tax collections will receive those tax dollars needed for their operations. Any property the Fiscal Officer offers for a Tax Lien Certificate Sale must be certified delinquent for at least one year under current law. Properties that are in bankruptcy or foreclosure are not eligible.

The Fiscal Office has been a pioneer in developing programs for the taxpayers of Summit County including a Delinquent Tax Payment Program. Scalise stated, “It is my intent to collect any and all delinquent real estate taxes for the betterment of our community, while at the same time understanding the difficult economic conditions that many of our citizens are presently facing. My office offers various payment program options to assist taxpayers in meeting their tax obligation. I am constantly looking for additional ways to help our property owners”.
