Homestead Tax Reduction Expands Eligibility Requirement for Vets

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that on March 23, 2016 the homestead exemption will expand its eligibility requirements for military veterans. Amended Senate Bill 10, 131st General Assembly has added a provision that will allow veterans to qualify based on their rating for individual unemployment (also referred to as “IU”). Previously, veterans were qualified based only on a total (100%) disability rating. This will provide the opportunity for hundreds of additional military veterans in Summit County to enroll in the homestead exemption.

First half 2015 real estate tax bills due February 19, 2016

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE would like to remind property owners that first half 2015 real estate taxes are due on Friday, February 19, 2016, with the exception of military personnel. Property taxes are deferred for military reservists who are on active duty. Applications can be obtained by calling (330)643-2641 or visiting Military Assistance.
 

Time is Running Out to Purchase 2016 Dog Licenses

Time is running out for Summit County dog owners to purchase 2016 licenses for their pets. Ohio law requires all dog licenses to be renewed by January 31, 2016. The cost for a single year license is $18.00, a three-year license is $54.00 and a permanent license is $180.00. Citizens who fail to meet the January 31, 2016 deadline, will be required to pay the statutory late fee of $18.00.
 

First half 2015 real estate tax bills to be mailed, due on February 19

Complaints against the valuation of real estate being accepted now

Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE reminds taxpayers that the Board of Revision will be accepting complaints against the valuation of their real estate beginning January 1, 2016. The deadline to file a complaint form (DTE 1) is March 31, 2016.

Fiscal Officer Scalise to offer real estate tax relief to June storm victims

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE has announced that real estate tax relief will be available to property owners who have sustained damage in the wake of the recent storm. Fiscal Officer Scalise’s office is taking the necessary steps to provide property owners the ability to file an Application for Valuation Deduction for Destroyed or Damaged Property (Form DTE 26), pursuant to Ohio Revised Code §319.38.

$4.64 million dollars to schools, community

Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise CPA, CFE is pleased to announce that she will return $4,644,900 in tax dollars to local taxing authorities. School districts are the major benefactor of the refund, receiving a total of $2,986,840.99. The money is a credit of the Real Estate Assessment Fund and will be distributed in early May.

The homestead exemption is a valuable tax reduction offering Summit County homeowners an average savings of $535 per year. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 1, 2015.
